Green Neighbors Program

The Clark County Green Neighbors Program is coordinated by Clark County Public Health’s Solid Waste and Environmental Outreach to assist citizens with developing more sustainable lifestyles and building a strong environmental community in Clark County. Solid waste regional planning and programs are a cooperative effort of Battle Ground, Camas, Clark County, La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver, Washougal, and Yacolt.

Conscious Consumption: Composting with Red Worms Workshop

Join us for the Composting with Red Worms Workshop at the Cascade Park Library on Saturday, June 1, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.

Learn how to compost using red worms and transform food scraps into all-natural fertilizer for your garden. This workshop is presented by the Clark County Composter Recycler Program, providing you with a great alternative to traditional backyard composting, especially if you have limited space. Participants will receive all the necessary supplies to create their own worm bin.

Don't miss this opportunity to discover the benefits of worm composting and contribute to a healthier environment.

Ivy Removal at Marine Park

Friday, June 7 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Join the Water Center to remove invasive ivy from Marine Park! Activities can include cutting ivy off tree trunks, bending over to pull ivy free from the soil, and shoveling and spreading bark mulch. All tools will be provided.

Hidden Journey of Wastewater

Saturday, June 8 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Have you ever wondered what happens to the water that goes down your drain? How far does it travel? Where does it go after it is cleaned? Join us for a tour of the city’s Marine Park Wastewater Treatment Plant to learn about the unseen journey of wastewater.

After the treatment plant tour, we will embark on a nature walk to the Columbia River to learn about the riparian ecosystem and see where the clean water is released.

Tour is geared towards adults and youth 8 years of age or older. Tour is inside and outside and will happen rain or shine. Dress for all weather conditions. For the nature walk portion, expect to walk 1.5 miles on paved pathways and uneven and sandy beaches.

You're invited! Join us for Forest Yoga at Columbia Springs

Looking to get back in touch with nature this summer? Join us for Forest Yoga at Columbia Springs! We will meet with local yogi Alison Wesley from Movement at Work in this beginning level class, moving into gentle shapes that help us see ourselves and the world more clearly.

When: 10:00am on Saturday, June 15th

What: A beginning level yoga class led local yogi Alison Wesley from Movement at Work. Please bring a mat or towel and whatever props you use during your normal practice.

How: Cost is $15 per person. Please register to reserve your spot!

Note: This class must have at least 10 participants signed up in advance to run. In the event that this number is not reached, the class will be cancelled, and refunds will be issued. Otherwise, all sales are final, and no refunds will be permitted.

Community Shred Event at Beautiful Savior Lutheran

Beautiful Savior Lutheran is hosting a shred day fundraiser for their 30th year of the Mexico Mission of building homes in Tijuana. 

Requesting $5 donation, 2 box limit. Paper Only: Bring documents in file/bankers boxes or Paper Grocery Bags)
Papers with staples, paper clips, and binder clips are allowed
No plastic covers, 3-ring binders or spiral notebooks

10am-1pm (or until truck is full)

Water Center Garden Cleanup

Join Water Center staff outdoors to help keep our Backyard Habitat Certified gardens in tip-top shape. Volunteer activities may include weeding, mulching, trimming and raking pathways. All necessary tools will be provided.

This year the Clark County Green Neighbors is organizing a FREE self-guided tour on Sunday, June 23rd, of the most vibrant and exquisite natural gardens in the county. These gardens thrive without the use of synthetic chemicals and include a wide variety of natural features and innovative gardening techniques.

2024 Film Series: Common Ground

About the film:

Common Ground unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late.

RecycleU Class: Recycling 201

Tuesday, June 25 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

This Recycling Beyond the Curb workshop covers a variety of recycling opportunities beyond the basics of curbside recycling. Discover recycling and reuse options available locally for plastic bags, appliances, bulky items and more! Learn how to identify Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and then how to safely dispose of this material in Clark County.

Please note that prior attendance in Recycling 101 is required for this free class. Sign up today.

Consider staying for a Bonus Organics 101 class from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

These classes are offered through a partnership with Vancouver Solid Waste, Clark County Green Neighbors and Waste Connections.

Twilight Tuesday

Tuesday, June 25 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

As the summer sun sets and the heat dissipates, movement begins along the water’s edge. Join a Water Center educator to explore the twilight in and around the Columbia River and its wetlands. Look for signs of animals, learn about plants, look for bats, and identify the twilight stars and planets that appear in the early evening sky.

Expect to walk 2 miles on uneven, sandy beaches and along paved pathways. Trail not suitable for strollers. Binoculars available to borrow. Walk is suitable for ages 6 and older.
